Planning on braving the crowds the day after Thanksgiving? You’re going to need a stiff drink. Lug your shopping bags to the Bar Drake in the just-renovated Sir Francis Drake. In June, the hotel hired one of the city’s most respected mixologists, South African native Jacques Bezuindenhout, to take over the cocktail menu in the new lobby bar. Now, top-notch renditions of such classics as the Sazerac and the manhattan can be had, but nothing is as perfectly autumnal as Bezuindenhaut’s Heated Affair—a warm, unfiltered apple-cider-based cocktail that’s spiked (quite generously) with Partida tequila and served with a layer of cream and a sprinkling of freshly grated nutmeg on top.
