While cities down on the Peninsula have long lured ramen-ites with promises of slurp-worthy noodles, SF has been sorely lacking. With any luck, Genki Ramen, which opened in January, is the beginning of a trend. Diners hunch over huge bowls of the house specialty, chashu ramen afloat with pork, as well as the warming, spicy mabo tofu ramen with ground pork. And it doesn’t end with noodles. Okonomiyaki—large pancakes studded with everything from seafood to vegetables—come ready to douse with a sweet ketchupy sauce, and robatayaki (grilled) items include chicken wings, ox tongue and eggplant. With a little help from the more-than-20-bottle sake menu, late-night cravings can be satisfied until 11 p.m.
