CANDY LAND Miette Confiserie, opened in late January by partners Meg Ray and Caitlin Williams, aims, like the Candy Man, to “make the world taste good.” Sister store to the organic bakeshop located in the Ferry Building, this sugar mecca carries hard-to-find candies, handmade confections and organic cotton candy ($3.50) infused with such essences as rose geranium and lemon verbena. 449 Octavia Blvd., 415-626-6221.

PICNIC PERFECTOakland’s Josh Jakus has taken orphaned wool-felt scraps that would have otherwise met their demise at the bottom of a Dumpster and turned them into the Eggflat, which lovingly cradles fruit as well as eggs. It does not, however, save either from their roles in tomorrow’s breakfast. $54; available at branchhome.com

LIFE OF PIE
Not only does the Mission Pie cafe employ students from Mission High (with a goal of helping them to build healthier local food systems within their community)—this SF offshoot of Pie Ranch, a sustainable farm near Pescadero, sells first-rate, mostly organic pies (pictured, apple pie, $18). Mission Pie, 2901 Mission St. (enter on 25th Street), 415-282-1500.

URBAN FLAVOR
Why season with fleur de sel or Hawaiian Alaea when you can have a taste of home? Sonoma Gourmet’s full-flavored salt ($12.50 for 5 pounds) is solar-evaporated from the waters of sf’s Bay. Sonoma Gourmet Sea Salt, saltworks.us.
