2008 EAT + DRINK AWARD: Best Dim Sum
SCENE: The banquet-style dining room of this dim-sum palace (with a second location on Stevenson Street) expands into the sunny, marble-floored Rincon Center atrium on the weekends, when throngs of San Franciscans come to eat chef-owner Henry Chan’s traditional and modern Chinese dishes. Fine details—etched-glass room dividers, white tablecloths and modern glass teapots, for example—give the place an elegant touch. EATS: Some may debate the authenticity of Yank Sing, but many diners appreciate the several novice-friendly dishes and the English-speaking staff, who graciously offer descriptions of items on the dim sum cart. Shanghai dumplings filled with minced pork, scallions and ginger is a signature dish, while Peking duck, barbecued pork buns and egg custard tarts are popular choices on the 60-plus-item menu.
