SCENE: Housed in a sliver of a space with only 18 stools, Domo (owned by Luke and Kitty Sung of Isa) redefines diminutive. The tight quarters, paneled in rough lengths of wood, give the room the feel of a Scandinavian sauna, and the close quarters make for a convivial experience.
EATS: Domo’s menu is filled with familiar rolls, such as Dragon and California, but they also offer a sparkling assortment of nigiri featuring lesser-seen fish like escolar (butterfish) and giant clam. Begin with the crudos, Japanese soup spoons filled with various raw fish preparations (such as tuna with Sriracha, mayonnaise and sesame oil or uni with avocado, wasabi and sea salt) that come two to an order. A small selection of good sake and a handful of Japanese beers are also available.
