2008 EAT + DRINK AWARD: Best French (tied with La Folie) 2007 EAT + DRINK AWARD: Best Ambiance / Best French
SCENE: Even after more than 45 years—and a fire that nearly destroyed it in 2001—Fleur de Lys remains one of the city’s top special-occasion destinations. Everything about the setting is ornate—rich fabrics in burnt orange, evergreen and maroon drape the dining room, floor to ceiling, for a feeling of old-money warmth.
EATS: Prepare for an onslaught of decadent ingredients in Alsatian chef Hubert Keller’s multicourse menus. The food is classic French, but that doesn’t mean it’s entirely without humor: Maine lobster and truffles are presented as a “cappuccino” and miniature burgers on brioche buns are filled with duck confit. Entrées are luxurious, from the marinated venison with apples, butternut squash and bordelaise sauce to the boneless quail stuffed with ris de veau, served with parsnips and foie gras. Opt for wine pairings with each course for a truly over-the-top experience.
