SCENE: This Hayes Valley mainstay, with airy, high ceilings and a polished bar perfect for solo diners, is one of SF’s classic seafood stops. Co-owner (and respected food writer) Patricia Unterman knows what her customers want: fresh ingredients that shine without overly pretentious preparation.
EATS: The menu highlights simple, sustainable seafood, but a Niman Ranch burger is a great alternative. Grilled fish (wild salmon and sea bass are favorites) is served with some of the best french fries in town, along with your choice of savory toppings, such as lemon-caper butter or Szechuan peanut sauce.
