SCENE: Few eateries are more cramped than Maki—good thing they added tables out front (in other words, in the hallway of the Japan Center). Although not a place for large groups, it’s ideal for catching up with a close friend over cups of sake.
EATS: The kitchen emphasizes rustic Japanese fare, as in hearty bowls of rice topped with thinly sliced marinated sirloin and yam noodles or unagi. The sushi is pristine, whether translucent slices of halibut or meaty chunks of salmon.
