SCENE: Opened by husband-and-wife team Phil and Cameron West, Range is the quintessential neighborhood restaurant, frequented by locals and foodies alike. Sit at the curved bar for the best view of the restaurant and sip one of the outstanding cocktails.

EATS: The unpretentious California-meets-all-American menu includes such dishes as a salad of fried capers, radishes and Little Gem lettuce, a fantastic coffee-and-spice-rubbed pork shoulder with hominy grits and, for dessert, a barely sweet Brillat-Savarin cheese soufflé. A glass of Alsatian Riesling from the bottles kept refrigerated in a vintage blood-bank cooler (yes, we said “blood bank”) is a great match for just about any of Range’s simple offerings.
