SCENE: This small, modern space in Dogpatch has a serene feel, despite its proximity to the 22nd Street Caltrain stop, its wide-open kitchen and its busy espresso machine. In the Italian style, it offers a small menu (and Blue Bottle coffee) and is open morning, noon and night, so you can stop in whenever the urge for a pizza and an espresso hits.

EATS: At Piccino, it’s mostly about the thin-crust pizza. The menu features four or five varieties, including the classic margherita, as well as one or two special pies of the day, which might be topped with bacon and spring onions or arugula and speck ham. The menu is rounded out with a couple of panini, a few salads, a soup and some simple desserts.
