SCENE: Can a former Kentucky Fried Chicken be reborn as a slick Mission restaurant? It seems so. This chain turned locally owned restaurant has a very modern feel: The flat grey walls are sparely accented by bright, oversized posters, with a few relics from the KFC days thrown in for authenticities sake. Edison-style lightbulbs and industrial chic fixtures complete the scene, and the requisite spork graces each place setting.
EATS: Most everything on the menu is under $20 and leans toward simple with a retro wink. Salads are good here, including a quirky spin on shrimp cocktail. The “in-side-out burger,” a napoleon of meat and bun layered with cheese, lettuce, tomato and Thousand Island dressing comes served with twice-cooked smashed potatoes, and for dessert you can have a “pot brownie,” the classic chocolate confection baked in—what else—a small pot.
