SCENE: It’s bold to open a Ligurian restaurant in the shadow of Delfina, arguably the matriarch of this city’s modern Italian dining scene, but Farina’s striking space helps distinguish it immediately. An enormous white marble bar cuts through the large room, and brilliant white subway tiles give the space a clean, modern look. Grab a seat at the focaccia bar if you like to watch the action.
EATS: The fresh pasta, made in full view of the dining room, is some of the finest in town. The selections change frequently, but look for the handkerchiefs with an outstanding basil pesto, or the borage-stuffed tortelli topped with a walnut-cream sauce. Second courses steer a more familiar course, such as perfectly cooked filet mignon or veal served with fresh porcini. For dessert, try the seasonally inspired panna cotta or a plate of artisanal cheeses accompanied by the house-baked hazelnut bread.
