Now fashion plates from all over the Bay Area have easier access to Hayes Valley, the neighborhood USA Today called the “NoLiTa of SF.” The tree-lined Octavia Boulevard freeway link—which replaced the quake-damaged Central Freeway—debuted last September and ushers some 44,000 vehicles into the district daily. This fall, the SF Conservatory of Music moves into a painstakingly renovated 1914 Mission-style building at 50 Oak Street. The neighborhood’s finishing touch: artist Po Shu Wang’s 12 kaleidoscopes on Octavia, through which visitors can watch passing cars morph into psychedelic patterns. So SF.
